RUGBY SCHOOL OF THE U.E. SANTBOIANA

Presentation

The School of the Santboiana Sports Union is the section of the Club in charge of training the youngest rugby players to make them the future players and players of the entity. The Sub6, Sub8, Sub10 and Sub12 categories are integrated within the school.

The origins of the Santboiana Sports Union School date back to 1955, when Vicens and Joan Bisbal formed a rugby team for children aged 8 and 9 to form them as future Club players.

The organization of the school and the training of small players is possible thanks to the volunteering of families, former players and other people linked to the Club, who altruistically dedicate part of their personal time to promote this sport. The organization of the school is open to everyone who wants to participate, either regularly as part of the board or with occasional participation collaborating in the organization of the various events, sports or social, which are held throughout the season.

Targets

The current organizational structure of the School allows not only the management of sports activities (training, meetings, trips to play tournaments, etc.) but also the organization of more playful activities (third time, lunches, etc. .), and participation in other activities is promoted
organized by the Club. These activities aim to, among other things, welcome the families of new players and players, promote friendship and foster group cohesion (that of players and players, as well as that of families) and generate a sense of club membership.

HISTORY OF THE RUGBY SCHOOL OF THE U.E. SANTBOIANA

The first activity can be considered as the creation of a rugby school dating back to 1955, when Vicens and Joan Bisbal formed a rugby team for children aged 8 and 9 to form them as future Rugby players for the Club.

In the 1961-62 season, the Bisbal Brothers themselves effectively created the Rugby School EU Santboiana, with the practice of the then called educational Rugby, rugby in the handkerchief or currently called Rugby flag, a modality that, in the opinion of the time would serve for children to know the technique of the game without fear of plating and contact, to achieve the which, this defensive play was replaced, by the fact of taking a handkerchief of color that the player took imprisoned at the waist and what loss represented to have been placated, it was played in reduced land and with a number of seven players: three forwards, two half and two three quarters.

With the creation of other teams in Catalonia with the same modality, an incipient Championship and the Santboiana were played, then participated for the first time in a Championship of Spain of infantile category that was played in Madrid with the presence of teams from all over the state (including the recently created El Salvador de Valladolid), in the spring of 1962.

Later this type of Rugby was abandoned to consider me the apprentice age was not comprehensive and after a while, during which there was no activity at this age (between 1970 and 1978) was re-launched, again encouraged some former players of the Club by the ineffable Joan Bisbal, and this time, being inspired by the organization of the French schools of Rugby and following the criteria of the Welshman Ray Williams, creator of the Rugby to 9 for children and this time in real Rugby, that is to say with plates and physical contact

The School of Rugby worked as follows:

The structure was designed in such a way that the child played two years in each of the four categories that made up his stay in school.

The spirit was basically non-competitive aiming to learn pure and simple of the individual technique and the contact of the boy with the group and the sport.

The children entered the School of Rugby at a very young age and integrated in the first level playing with GREEN t-shirt (indicative of the their inexperience) up to 8 years, in small groups ts guided by abundant monitors and with the pretension that they only made contact with the most playful part of our sport and took confidence with the ball, the field and the companions.

In the second level they were there in the ages of 9 and 10 years playing with a RED T-shirt (indicative of its beginning of maturation) beginning to learn the rudiments of individual technique, this being a crucial age to root the basic techniques (skills that the British call it), because the virtues that are learned or mistakes that they are not corrected at this age, it is very difficult to change later.

The third level was the one between the ages of 11 and 12 years and the students of the School played with the YELLOW t-shirt, symbol of advance in maturity and is in this stage that the rudiments of the collective technique were taught and later, by coincidence with ages admitted Federatively, it participated in the diverse Tournaments and Championships of the category Young fish, playing with space and number of j reduced with respect to the competition Rugby.

Finally it arrives at the fourth and maximum level of the School, that is the purchase in the ages of 13 and 14 years, gaining the student at last the t-shirt of color BLUE , which indicates that it has reached sufficient maturity to have the honor of wearing the colors of the Club, going on to teach the notions of collective play, using playing space and number of real players and like the ages described above, coinciding with federal ages, participating in the Championships and Tournaments of the Children's category.

It is at the end of the years of the School of Rugby, when the player passed to the cadet team, thus entering the world of competitive sport and to participate in the federated Tournaments and Competitions and with the name of the EU Santboiana.

Over time and changes in the rules, some ages and categories have changed and in the 90s the color system was abandoned due to age, moving to play the whole school with the unique U.E. shirt. Santboiana. Also from this time began to play mixed boys and girls until the infant age. The school has always had volunteer monitors, former players and parents of some students who have contributed experience and at the same time have also taken tables for, some of them, later doing the coaching courses, have coached several teams of the club, got to train some of them, even the first team of the entity.

Also with time the administrative and organizational structure of the School was improved, that did the management, not only of the sport activities (encounter, trips to play tournaments, etc) but also playful (third time, lunches, etc) , arriving even for a time in the decade of the 90s, to make medical examinations to all the students of the School, thanks to the collaboration of several volunteer doctors of the Club (Drs. Marlet, Escoda, Hurtado, Saavedra, etc. .).

The goal today, continues to be to train in technique and spirit of the game to the future players and players of the U.E. Santboiana, trying to have as many students as possible in the Rugby School, which guarantees the continuity of the Club both in quantity and in the feeling of belonging to it and friendship and sport, that the girls and children live from the moment they start playing.
